Thank you to John Banovich for coming on Tuesday and giving a great presentation on being a film director to both K classes. The students were excited to see the footage of a bear in the wild - many of them shared their own bear encounter stories!

Another big thanks!
On Thursday, Mr. Pregil explained his job as a registered nurse in the emergency department. He reminded us of the importance of good hand washing and the use of the emergency number 911. The students were excited to see how the stethoscope works and receive a band-aid afterwards.
Yesterday afternoon, all of the Kindergarten students listened to Mrs. Baptista's presentation on germs, hand washing and immunizations. Mrs. Lemire, Mrs. Olaybal and Mrs. Lewis' hands were inspected under the black light for germs - even adults need reminders on good hand washing techniques!

Goats
Goats
On Monday afternoon Faith Benko, a Grade 5 CCS student, shared with the school her upcoming mission trip, with her family, to Kenya over spring break. She has challenged each class to raise $50 - which is the price of a goat! A goat is a great source of food supply and its products can be easily sold at markets. So....please send it any donations (coins are welcome) for this challenge.

Fort Langley and Firefighter Presentations
A big thanks to our first two parent presentations! Yesterday, Mrs. Banovich came dressed in 1800's clothing and shared lots of information about the Fort Langley historic site, trading, furs and gold panning. The students were excited to touch furs made out of a beaver, an otter and even a wolf! She also gave each student a Fort Langley colouring book, storehouse craft, a free child's admission ticket and top hat (parents assembly required).
If you would like to visit Fort Langley, there is a Vive les Voyageurs Winter Festival happening this weekend, Sat. Jan 25 & 26th. Here is a link for more information http://www.pc.gc.ca/lhn-nhs/bc/langley/activ/activ2014.aspx#voyageurs
This morning we had Mr. Devine who shared information about his job as a firefighter. We learned about fire safety, emergency number 911 and clothing that firefighters wear to fight fires. The highlight was that students were able to try on the oxygen mask and show us their stop-drop-and roll! Great job students! I even tried to carry the oxygen tank - boy, that was heavy! Thanks again Firefighter Kevin for bringing us firefighter hats, tattoos and information booklets about fire safety at home!
